In recognition of World AIDS Day this December 1st, our colleagues and friends atIVUmed collaborated with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the American Urological Association (AUA), and Jhpiego (a nonprofit affiliate of Johns Hopkins University) to launch a aggressive fight against HIV/AIDS in Swaziland. IVUMed reports that, according to recent studies, male circumcision has been found to contribute significantly to the prevention of female-to-male HIV transmission. During a recent three-week campaign in Swaziland, IVUMed volunteers helped provide safe circumcisions to more than 7,000 men. IVUMed reports that this will translate into almost 2,000 HIV infections prevented.

Locum tenens travelers: Cancel tickets if you can’t make your flight!

Effective January 1, 2009, United, American, and most major airlines have started strictly enforcing a little-known policy that applies to non-refundable airline tickets. They now require travelers to CANCEL a ticket before the flight date and time if they are not going to make the flight.

It's a little-known fact that Feb. 17th is locum tenens bragging day. Well at least it is at VISTA. We send out evaluations to every physician recruited, and to both physicians and clients after every locums assignment. All we can say is 2009 is off to a great start. Application Fee to be Waived by the New Mexico Medical Board!

This is a great deal for new, unlicensed physicians. In an effort to recruit and retain physicians in New Mexico, the New Mexico Medical Board (NMMB) is waiving the application fee for physicians who choose New Mexico as their first state of licensure.
